Wheel of Consent® Workshop
Enhance your relationships through clarifying our unseen dynamics in this 2 day workshop.
In our everyday interactions, how often do they result in easy, kind and rewarding exchanges of energy?
The Wheel of Consent® (designed by Betty Martin) is a simple and powerful practice tool to improve the quality of our relationships. The purpose of this workshop is for participants to have an embodied experience of each of the quadrants. Also participants will learn to notice, value, trust and communicate what they want and what they are willing to engage in.
Using the modality of touch (non-sexual) and choice, this workshop will cultivate awareness and understanding in making agreements with others.
Navigating relationships with other people is not always easy, but through understanding the unseen dynamics that play out in our relationships and exchanges, we can learn to truly establish what it is that we want, valuing that and ways to ask for it. This setting creates the container for clearer boundaries and agreements; in turn, leaving us with more honest, authentic and mostly fulfilling connections with people in our lives.
Principles of the workshop that may present themselves:
What will the workshop entail?
‘You don’t have to unravel the complexities of your psyche, heal your issues, figure out what boundaries are, or struggle to “get out of your head.” Your skin will do that for you. First it will show you where you are lost or stuck, and then it will bring you insights that clear it up. Bring your attention back to your skin, and the insights will follow naturally, not the other way around. Let your skin do the work for you. ~ Betty Martin, The Art of Giving and Receiving on principles that show up.
The Wheel of Consent® Workshop is a foundational understanding of the four quadrants of The Wheel. It expands on our ideas of giving and receiving cultivating insights into unseen dynamics at play. The Wheel of Consent is a practice that can be applied to any relationship dynamic from friends, family, work, partners to politics.
The Workshop will include:
“If you want to improve the quality of your experience of touch, the place to put your attention is not on the touch. It’s on the choosing.” ~ Betty Martin
The core principle of this workshop is about choice. Participation can look different for everyone. There will be opportunities to work with others, or to remain engaging individually. Most importantly this workshop is about listening to our own needs and communicating that.
Who is this workshop for?
The teachings of The Wheel of Consent® are ideal for anyone. We welcome people of all genders, orientations and relationship statuses who wish to deepen their knowledge and ability to clearly communicate when making agreements from making a cup of tea to negotiating more intimate scenarios.
For couples and individuals:
Professionals and Entrepreneurs:
“There is always a risk in increasing your awareness. You risk seeing things you might rather not notice. You risk feelings you might rather avoid. You risk having to change what you think or worse - having to change what you do.
There are those of us willing to take that risk, who want to take that risk, because the freedom behind it calls to us. So it is with this practice. There will be moments of discomfort, and there will be “aha” moments, insights and liberation. And fun. There will be things you learn here that are a big relief.” ~ Betty Martin
About the facilitator:
For those who don’t know me, I’m Nirvana! I am a Wheel of Consent® certified trainer and facilitator who has 30 years experience in movement and touch modalities.
Consent has always been a curiosity of mine, particularly in teaching partnered movement and acrobatics and I have been able to explore consent even deeper through becoming a Somatic Sex Coach and studying The Wheel®.
I am passionate about creating secure and comfortable spaces; through learning and implementing the tools of The Wheel of Consent® we can explore and practice consent with safety.
The next Wheel of Consent workshop will be held:
Location: Proximity One, 11/38 Brougham St, Fairfield
Next Dates: 29th & 30th of October
Early bird - $225 until 15th October
Full Amount - $250

Touch Practice Class
Explore touch in a safe, consensual space, discovering its benefits and how it can enhance our lives.
As human beings, we are wired to touch.
Touch can be healing. When given and received with love, compassion and in the boundaries of consent, it can help us form incredible bonds which are essential for cultivating true and meaningful relationships.
Touch connects us to others on a fundamental level. Touch is vital tool for nervous system regulation. It activates the vagus nerve, can bring a sense a safety to our bodies thus reducing stress. It increases our compassion for others. It can be totally absorbing and transformative if the right conditions are present. It can be one of life’s greatest joys.
Yet, quite often, it can be something that humans are hesitant or unsure about. As touch has been done to us well before we are verbal. According to Betty Martin’s book, The Art of Giving and Receiving, this early neurological wiring conditions us around what we feel is acceptable in touch and how sometimes we should just put up with it, either not wanting to offend the other or that there is something wrong with us. This early wiring can be undone. However it takes practice.
As Covid restrictions ease and we go back to our previous way of life, there seems to be an air of uncertainty around touch and its importance in forming connections seem to be somewhat forgotten. This is why the need for Touch Practice Classe has arisen - so we can reconnect with one of our fundamental human instincts.
Touch Practice Classes are a way we can bring more touch into our lives in a group setting. To create the safety of the group, elements of the Wheel of Consent® by Dr Betty Martin will be taught and practiced to encourage and welcome firm but loving boundaries. This will help to cultivate choice as well as present an opportunity for participants to notice, value and trust our wants and how to communicate them.
What will the class entail?
What will you need to bring?
Covid Protocols
As we are still in the midst of a pandemic, covid safety practices will be taken. Please refrain from coming if you have any covid related symptoms or been in contact with someone who has. Hands will be washed upon entry. You are also welcome to wear your mask during the session.
Consent Protocols
As this is a non-erotic space, no touching of genitals will be allowed during the sessions. Touch is only welcome on the agreed upon body parts. Touching outside of the agreement intentionally will mean that person will no longer be allowed to attend the workshops.
The next Touch Practice Classes will be held:
